OTP verification on mobile if customer selects COD

On the check out page there can be multiple or couple of methods to payment or to process next to complete the order like COD or payment through cards. If customer select cards they no worry but if customer select COD as a payment method or order method then what if customer enters wrong mobile number because we are not verifying the mobile number so if customer selects COD as a method then its mobile number should be verified by sending an OTP on mobile number and if he succeeds then only order should be forward or order should move next or complete and if user is enable to verify the OTP set on mobile then order should be stop or cancelled.

This is actually a common issue with COD orders. Shopify checkout doesn’t verify the phone number, so customers sometimes enter incorrect or unreachable numbers, which becomes a problem during delivery.

One way merchants usually handle this is by adding an OTP verification step after the order is placed, only for COD orders.

For example, once a customer places a COD order, they can be asked to verify their phone number on the Thank You or Order Status page. The number can be prefilled from checkout, and the customer simply requests an OTP and confirms it.

After successful verification, the order can be tagged so merchants know the number is verified before processing or shipping the order.

If the customer doesn’t complete verification, reminder messages can be sent automatically, and unverified orders can also be cancelled after a certain time to avoid shipping risky COD orders.

This approach helps filter fake COD orders without affecting prepaid customers.

For this approach, you can use this Codify COD app which is exactly fit for the above workflow.
