I am trying to come up with a way to accurately show to a customer that a product is available for pickup only on the product page and in the cart. This happens in cases where a pickup-only location has stock, but 3PL shipping locations are temporarily out of stock.
I was hoping to be able to deduce this somehow by comparing either inventory quantities available to quantity available for pickup, but that doesn’t appear possible.
Is there any object available that would provide the number of items available for pickup at each location so that can be shown to a customer? Is there a way to determine if inventory quantity is 0 across only locations that have shipping methods set up?
This seems like a fairly major gap since currently the only way the customer to discover this is to get a ‘product can’t be shipped to your location’ method in the checkout, and they then have to guess which item(s) that message applies to.
There is an app called Multi-Location Inventory Info by Kark Ltd that I think will suit exactly what you’re looking for. With this app, your customers will be able to see the available quantity at each of your locations on the product page. Example below:

I am not really interested in a third-party app for this basic functionality. This really seems like something that should be able to be done with out-of-the-box liquid variables.
Creating a private app to do this in a much more lightweight way is of course an option, I was hoping there was a more native solution.
