Package weight and size via API

We have the need to create regular PLD reports (package level detail reports). This can be required when you’re comparing shipper pricing for large contracts, or reporting to customs, or for many other reasons.

A PLD typically includes the following fields:

  • Destination Postal Code

  • Origin Postal Code

  • Billed weight

  • Current service levels

  • Package

  • Length, Width, Height

Anyway, I can see this data in the timeline, and I can pull it via the Order & Events API, but the data is not in the response. Only the header is part of the message. I’ve read through all the Restful API & GrapQL API documentation, but for some reason it seems like Shopify prevents the end user from easily gathering this data. Am I missing something? Has anyone figured out how to gather this data for each order via the API?

How it looks in the timeline:

Just bumping this up. Is this possible via the API? And if not, has anyone figured out a way to get data for a PLD report?

I’m bumping this up again. So, a bit of background here – @Shopify_77 are the ones requesting the PLD, as part of Shopify Logistics. However, Shopify gives us no possibility of getting this data. @Shopify_77 , how can one group in your company ask for this data, yet not provide customers a way to gather this data for them?

I’d love some insight here.

Hi @elinenbe :waving_hand:

Thank you for the feedback. You are correct, the ability to pull this information in our API is not currently available.

I would imagine this feature would be valuable to many of our merchants and agree it would allow our merchants to better connect with Shopify Logistics. I have ensured our developers are aware of the limitation. While I can’t guarantee a timeframe, I would watch our Developer Changelog for any updates.

Do we have any updates on that?

We’re also keen to see this feature added to the API. We generate customized commercial invoices and fulfillment instructions via the API and including the package attributes would be super helpful.
