Page edits saved, going live, reverting back within 48hrs - help!

My employees and I make small but very important edits to a few pages on my store at least once a day. We always check with each other before editing to make sure no one is editing the same page at the same time. This system has worked just fine for years and years.

Over the last month or so we edit a page, save, check that the edits went live, and the often but not always come back within 1-48hrs to find that the edits are gone and the page has reverted back to the previous version.

I am at my wit’s end and so far Shopify support has been no help. Any insights as to what could be causing this would be much appreciated. I have confirmed only 2 employees and me have been logged in and made changes to the site during this time. TIA!

@TreeKim

Most Possible Issues are:
A connected GitHub repo (if your theme is linked, any sync can overwrite manual edits)
An app that manages or “optimizes” pages (page builders, SEO apps, translation tools, etc.)
An automation tool like Shopify Flow re-applying previous data
Someone is publishing another version of the theme in the background

A few suggestions need to be checked from the client’s end :
Confirm whether your theme is connected to GitHub
Review any apps installed or updated in the last month (especially anything that edits pages/content)
Check activity logs for edits happening at times no one on your team is working
Try editing a duplicate of the page and see if that also reverts or not.

Thanks, I appreciate your help!

though not an actual solution but i experienced the same issue, particularly when using the chrome browser to access and update the store. Without Chrome it did not happen anymore. Also, if the store is acting slow (inspite of clearing cache and restarting) I learned not to implement any changes. The rework resulting in much more time than just wait a little.
Last but not least: support is getting more and more a ‘chatbox’ than actual support, inquiries what is causing the disappearance of updates has not merited one single or actual response. Just deflections.

I feel so validated. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you, I will try this. My client is having the same issue and none of the other causes/solutions apply. What alternate browser are you using, R4B?

Hi @TreeKim :waving_hand:

Just sounds like shopify cache being shopify cache.
There’s also if multiple people are trying to edit the same resources and someone saves after someone else saves, etc; or it’s cached in one person browser when the revisit the page and save any changes the UI prompts them to save.

Really think the problem through though your getting bit by using the admin UI instead of building your own processes.
The shopify admin is a crude default baseline built for the masses , a lowest common denominator for MILLIONS of use cases.
And it’s a shifting surface always being fiddled with at any time of the week and time of day no matter how important it might be for you to have stable unchanged tool.

Use spreadsheets → push changes to platform → if changes don’t stick just push changes again
→ or build in a sync process where YOUR source of truth reigns supreme anytime some platforms data doesn’t respect your data or time.

Or use lowcode dashboard builders like retool, microsoft power apps, etc etc etc

You are right on many levels… So many times something in Shopify has worked just fine for a long time and then BAM, Shopify makes some update and all of a sudden something important doesn’t work anymore. It makes me want to tear my hair out. My team and I refer to Shopify as “Little Shopify of Horrors” for this reason. I should and will develop a process outside of the Shopify editor to make these important regular page updates. Thanks!

MaraDesign, tested chrome, safari and duckduckgo. The latter is the only one that is stable and without generating any issues.

 name fits. I will do the same, as soon as possible. pretty much done with Shopify. For 3 months stale cache, and CDNs blocking robots. Throwback on already indexed pages by 30 percent. Will take weeks before it is back to the status of beginning of march

Kim, in addition. It took 5 months and several tickets to get issues solved. Demand that the running ticket is NOT closed. they will start a new one, put it as solved, and you’re running circles. Still not functioning. Store is up to par, scoring respectable 97,96,96,100
HAving a CDN blockage literally made my site a ghost store. Do not accept deflections by support.
On top of that, solved every thing i could myself, but structural issues should be solved by Shopify.
