Password protected site not accepting password

Hi there,

I would like to send a link to my new site to a colleague. It’s still password protected as it’s a work in progress. I’ve set a password, but when someone enters the (correct) password, it’s not letting them through to the site. It’s just reloading the password protected message page.

I can activate and deactivate the password protection with no issue. Any idea how I can keep it password protected for now but I can still allow someone else to view it if I give them the password?

First please check if they are entering the password correctly. Else use the following link format.

https://{YOUR_SHOPIFY_STORE_URL}/password?password={YOUR_SHOPIFY_STORE_PASSWORD}

You should contact Shopify support regarding the issue of the site not accepting password.

In the meantime, a workaround allows others to view your store while keeping it password-protected. You can create a Shopify preview link and give it to your colleague:

  • From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes

  • Find the live theme, click on Actions > Preview

  • Click on the “Share preview” button listed in the image below

  • A pop-up window will display revealing the preview link. Click on “Copy Link” and share it with your colleague.

Thank you! A great workaround. My changed password seems to work now, which makes me think it just takes some time to populate once that change has been made.
