Pause and Build or Password Protect?

I need to pause my store anywhere from 3 months to a year. Since 2015 I have always paid my subscription fee annually and it will be up for renewal in October. If I just do Password Protect what happens at renewal in October - I continue at my current rate and can choose to pay monthly or annually? I assume I won’t be charged anything before renewal in October, am I correct? I’ll need to choose an new plan when remove password protection?

If I choose Pause and Build, do I start paying $9.00/month immediately or does that kick in after my renewal date in October since I’ve prepaid until then?

If I choose Pause and Build can I also add password protect? I don’t know how to write the code to remove prices and the cart etc. and with Password Protect it appears that I can add a message to customers on the landing page. Also confirming that I’ll need to choose a new plan when I unpause?

Any help/suggestions much appreciated as I have to this ASAP - thank you!

Choosing the Pause and Build plan now would start the new monthly subscription immediately. You can still use password protection on the Pause and Build plan, though it isn’t required. This means that you do not need to select a new plan right away when you remove password protection. You can still view the online store on this plan—customers just won’t be able to use the checkout until you choose a new plan.

Subscription billing renews automatically, so your subscription will renew regardless of whether the store is password protected. Before your renewal date, I recommend contacting our team via the Shopify Help Center so we can help you switch to monthly billing if you don’t see the option within the admin.
