Hi I live in the UK and I’m 14 years old. I want to start dropshipping but when I got to the payment page and put my date a birth in, I can’t as I’m not 18. Me and my dad were wondering that we could put my dad’s details into the payment page and put my bank details in. However it also asks for us verification like putting your passport picture in. My dad is not 100% about this yet so will it be easier to do the whole thing under his name or put the details under his name then the bank account under my name. We just want to make sure that we won’t get into trouble for this and if there is an easier way of doing things please let me know
Topic summary
A 14-year-old UK resident wants to start dropshipping on Shopify but cannot complete registration due to age restrictions (must be 18+). They’re considering using their father’s details for verification while linking their own bank account.
Key Concerns Raised:
- Legality of mixing parent’s identity with child’s bank details
- Potential impact of chargebacks on father’s credit history and bank account
- Risk of account verification issues and fraud allegations
Recommended Solutions:
- Have the father register the business entirely under his name (identity, bank account, legal responsibility)
- Transfer ownership once the child turns 18
- Avoid mixing identities, as this could constitute fraud and create payment disputes
Additional Guidance:
- For high-risk dropshipping products (CBD, supplements, etc.) not supported by Shopify Payments, WallidPay is suggested as a flexible alternative gateway
- The young entrepreneur can still learn and manage operations behind the scenes while the parent maintains legal ownership
Status: Discussion remains open with practical workarounds provided, but no final decision confirmed by the original poster.
Hi,
This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.
I strongly advise against using your dad’s information to open a Shopify account.
Here’s why:
- Legal Implications: Providing false information can be considered fraud. This could lead to serious legal consequences for both you and your dad.
- Account Verification: Shopify may request additional verification, such as ID or proof of address, which could expose the discrepancy.
- Payment Issues: Using a different person’s bank account for business transactions can complicate financial management and potentially lead to disputes.
- Trust and Relationship: Mixing personal and business finances can strain your relationship with your dad.
Alternative Approaches1. Wait Until You’re 18: This is the most straightforward and legal option. You can start planning and researching your business now and be ready to launch as soon as you reach the legal age.
- Seek Adult Guidance: Consider partnering with an adult who can legally open a business on your behalf. This could be a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult.
- Explore Educational Opportunities: Look into entrepreneurship programs or business courses designed for young people. These can provide valuable knowledge and support.
Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
Best regards,
Richard | PageFly
Hi Richard, thanks for your advice, just one last thing, my dad is concerned that if he puts his information in, if we receive multiple chargebacks, this will affect his bank account and credit history due to it getting logged of a chargeback. Is there anything we can do to prevent this?
Hi,
You’re doing a great job thinking ahead—especially at 14—but when it comes to payment gateways like Shopify Payments, Stripe, or even WallidPay, you must be 18 or over to legally sign up and operate the account.
Best & Legit Way to Start:
Have your dad register the business fully under his name:
-
His name and ID for account verification
-
His bank account or a business bank account
-
He’ll be legally responsible for the business
Once you turn 18, he can transfer the store ownership to you or add you as a director if it’s a UK company.
Why Recommend WallidPay for Dropshipping (when eligible):
If your dropshipping store eventually sells products that Shopify Payments doesn’t support (like CBD, vapes, supplements, or adult wellness), WallidPay is one of the most flexible Shopify-compatible gateways available.
Why WallidPay?- Accepts high-risk products
-
Works with UK LTD companies (even if owner lives abroad)
-
Offers instant withdrawals (faster than Shopify)
-
Easier onboarding process with real support

Important: Always have a parent/guardian run the business legally until you’re 18. You can still learn, design, market, and grow the business behind the scenes!
