PayPal Express Checkout for Sri Lanka — Now that PayPal has approved Sri Lanka (May 2026), please add support on Shopify

Hi Shopify Community,

I wanted to raise this as a formal request and hoping others in the same situation will upvote this.

Background: As of May 15, 2026, PayPal has officially approved Sri Lanka for PayPal Business accounts, meaning Sri Lankan merchants can now create and operate PayPal Business accounts to send and receive payments internationally.

The issue: Despite this, PayPal Express Checkout is still not appearing as an available payment method for stores with Sri Lanka set as their country in Shopify admin (Settings > Payments > Additional payment methods).

The request: Please add PayPal Express Checkout support for Sri Lanka-based Shopify stores, in line with PayPal’s own updated regional approval.

This is a significant blocker for Sri Lankan merchants trying to sell internationally — PayPal remains one of the most trusted and widely used payment methods globally, and many of our customers expect it at checkout.

At the moment PayPal Express Checkout is not available for Shopify stores registered in Sri Lanka even though PayPal Business accounts are now supported there.

This is a platform level limitation from shopify so it cannot be enabled manually.

As a workaround you can either:

Use PayPal as a manual payment method (send invoice or PayPal email after order) or
Use alternative payment gateways that are available in your region.

The permanent solution will depend on Shopify enabling PayPal Express Checkout support for Sri Lanka in their system.
