Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Shopify Community.
I understand you are having an issue with payments on your store - in particular you are seeing an error in the checkout. Thanks for confirming you have a PayPal business account - most functions and tools provided by PayPal for business owners are only available when using a business account.
Have you confirmed that the error you are seeing in the checkout is definitely related to the PayPal gateway, and not another third party gateway that you have added? Have you added any other payment gateways to your store besides PayPal? If not, does this warning message appear after you click the ‘Pay with PayPal’ button in the checkout? Any extra information you can provide will be helpful for troubleshooting this with you.
The first thing I would recommend checking is the Settings > Payments section of your admin. Here you can locate the PayPal gateway and check to see if you have fully set up PayPal on your store, and whether or not there are any obvious errors or issues with the integration. By default Shopify will create a PayPal Express Checkout account using the email address you used to sign into your store, however if you have a different PayPal account then it’s important to make sure the correct one is set up. The guide linked above explains this process.
You should be able to navigate to Orders > Abandoned Checkouts to view more information about this payment attempt. After clicking into the Abandoned checkout you can scroll to History and then click a payment event. This may provide more information on what went wrong.
Feel free to provide any extra relevant screenshots here and I can take a closer look. Please be mindful that this is a public forum, so do not share anything that includes private or sensitive information in it. I would also recommend logging in to your PayPal account directly, and making sure all looks OK there and that the account is working correctly. Reaching out to PayPal support may shed some light on potential issues if you aren’t sure if the account is in good working order.
I didn’t add any payment with PayPal,my acccount on PayPal is business,as you mentioned when I go to Abandoned PayPal comment is there is violation I contact them and they inform me that I must to link Visa card not Mastercard as I linked.
Thanks for reaching back out to let me know that you managed to resolve this - great to hear!
In the interest of helping others who may come across this issue, was the solution to link a Visa card to your PayPal account, on the PayPal website itself yes? Well done for finding the error in the abandoned checkout and then following up to resolve it.
You mentioned Egypt in your first post - is your store located in Egypt? I’d love to hear more about your store and the products you sell. If you haven’t already considered adding a payment provider to your store besides PayPal, you can check out the list of available gateways in Egypt here. Having the ability for customers to use credit cards in the checkout (as well as the option for PayPal) gives them more options and may help to encourage more sales. We also have a guide on adding third party payment gateways here.
Are you still building your Shopify store, or have you gone live and are already selling? We have a bunch of helpful resources that you can use to learn more about Shopify and to help with your store. I would recommend this free Shopify Learn course and also this checklist for starting a new Shopify store.
Yes, usually when you create an account with a payment gateway there will be some sort of verification process. They will usually require documents containing specific information so they can verify things such as identification, date of birth, proof of address, business registration etc.
The purpose of collecting this type of information is usually to comply with regulatory requirements and is designed to prevent things such as money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes.
Although not available in Egypt currently, our own offering of Shopify Payments actually requires similar verification. You might find it useful to have a read over the requirements page here, just to give you an idea of the kind of documents you might need for other payment gateways. However, it would be a good idea to reach out to the third party gateway directly, and they can explain their own specific requirements.
For now however, PayPal is certainly a popular payment method for many customers, so it’s great that you managed to get this issue resolved and the gateway working on your store. Please do let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
