Hi everyone! I have a Shopify website that I set up for a client of mine. I originally set it up with no payments, but it may have attached to my PayPal. Now the PayPal screen in Payments shows its incomplete setup and not linked, but I keep getting payments on my PayPal for orders on their website. I don’t want the money, it is the clients money and their product to sell.
I want to know how to remove my PayPal. It doesn’t show it being active in the Payments screen. I’m tired of either refunding customers on behalf of his company and also tired of making their customers have to re-do, some of which won’t because its a headache.
The issue you are facing occurs because Shopify automatically defaults the PayPal Express Checkout account to the email address used to create the store. Even though the status says “Setup incomplete,” the integration is partially active, allowing customers to send payments to that email address. Since that email is linked to your personal PayPal, the funds are routed to you, but the Shopify admin does not fully recognize the connection yet, which is why the “Deactivate” button is missing.
Now, you can click the “Complete setup” button shown in your screenshot and log in with the personal PayPal account that is currently receiving the funds. Once the system successfully verifies the connection and the status changes to “Active”, you can click on the Manage button to disconnect your account from the store.
After you have deactivated your account, the PayPal section will reset.
