We did a Crowdfunding campaign previously to our shopify store that promoted Lifetime Discounts for those who backed us on kickstarter.
It was quite successful and we got good pre orders.

One option for this instead of creating individual unique codes would be to use Shopify’s standard discount option to limit a discount code to certain customers or customer segments, which means that as long as the customer logs into their account that is eligible, they would be able to use the discount code, but other users would not be able to.
