Pick up location - product limitations

Hello!

I have several schools and businesses that we offer branded merchandise. I have them set up as collections so they have a landing page with only their items on it. Each of these businesses have a separate pick up location. The shopper can chose to pick up their items at our shop, their business office or ship it. So I have multiple pick up locations set up in Shopify. The titles say “Only for XX branded items” but people don’t read. So I have shoppers wanting to pick up a softball jersey at a random business. Is there a way to limit pick up locations by product or collection?

Here are a few approaches

  • Use separate locations and remove inventory from unwanted pickup points
  • Create “Pickup Only” variants or duplicate products
  • Add very clear per product messaging
  • Use a third-party app for advanced pickup rules

By default, Shopify doesn’t let you restrict pickup locations per product or collection, pickup locations are store-wide.

Workarounds that usually help:

  • Create separate shipping profiles and assign products to them, each with its own pickup options.

  • Use a local pickup app that allows conditional logic based on product or collection.

  • As a last resort, hide/rename pickup options with theme or checkout customization to make the correct choice clearer.

Not perfect out of the box, but shipping profiles + pickup apps are usually the cleanest solution.

Shopify’s native pickup location settings do not allow you to limit specific pickup locations to certain products or collections. All active pickup locations are available for all products that are eligible for local pickup.

To achieve this, you would need a third-party app. Here are some options:

An app like Stellar Delivery Date & Pickup lets you:

  • Set multiple pickup locations

  • Include or exclude products for specific pickup locations

  • Ensure only the correct pickup locations show for each product or collection

This is the most reliable way to prevent customers from selecting the wrong pickup location.
