Pickup location differs from country of buyer

We have had a big problem for a couple of weeks without having changed anything in the store setup.

Our customers order from all over the world and can choose to pick them up at our shop in Germany (we are a traditional costume rental company and therefore have many customers from other countries who want to wear the costumes when they come to Munich).

Previously, it was not a problem for customers to select collection from our store even if they ordered from the USA or Spain, for example. This no longer works, which is a big problem for us. It works with the “Change location” workaround and entering our store address, but since we can’t install a pop-up in the shopping cart, we can only tell customers this on request. And either way, a workaround that means extra effort for the customer can’t be the solution.

We have already contacted Shopify support twice, both tickets were closed without the problem being fixed or a solution being offered.
Does anyone else have this problem and how did you solve it?

Ah, yes, that is frustrating. Which store pickup app are you using?

It looks like it might be possible to allow instore pickup, regardless of location by default with the latest pickup API.

Maybe Shopify may have changed how local pickup eligibility is determined, possibly restricting it based on the customer’s shipping country. Because Shopify support hasn’t resolved it, here are some solutions I’d recommend:

  • Check your Shopify local pickup settings. Ensure that “local pickup” is still enabled and correctly configured under Settings > Shipping and Delivery > Local Pickup.
  • Use a custom cart note or banner. Because you cant add a pop-up, a simple cart message near checkout (via theme settings or a small code edit) could guide customers on how to select pickup.

we are not using any separate Pick-up App only the Standard Pick-up options from Shopify Store-Pickup.
