Hi everyone,
I have a question about organic traffic and targeting customers in the United States.
I understand that Pinterest is different from traditional social media because it’s more of a visual search engine, similar to Google. My goal is to attract US customers organically to my Shopify store (Print On Demand) through Pinterest and Google Search by creating high-quality content and focusing on SEO.
My question is:
Do I need to use a VPN connected to a US location while creating content, managing my Shopify store, or publishing Pinterest pins in order to target US customers?
Or does my physical location (I’m outside the US) not matter, as long as I:
-
Create content that is relevant to US users.
-
Use the right keywords and SEO practices.
-
Optimize my Shopify store for search engines.
-
Produce valuable content consistently.
In other words, does Google or Pinterest care where the content is published from, or do they mainly rank content based on its relevance and quality?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone with experience targeting US customers from another country.
Thanks!
Hi @MEZ_MUS No, you don’t need a VPN. Google and Pinterest rank content based on relevance, language, and targeting signals — not where you’re physically located when creating it.
What actually matters for targeting US customers:
-
Content language & keywords — use US-specific terms, spelling (e.g., “color” not “colour”), and search intent matching what US users type.
-
Shopify store settings — set your store’s market/region to target the US (Settings → Markets), use USD pricing, and US-relevant shipping info.
-
Pinterest settings — set your Pinterest business account’s audience/location targeting to the US in account settings, and use US-relevant boards/keywords in pin descriptions.
-
Domain/hosting location doesn’t matter — Google doesn’t penalize or favor content based on server location for most searches; it’s relevance and quality that count.
A VPN isn’t necessary and won’t meaningfully change your rankings — focus your time on keyword research, content quality, and proper store/Pinterest targeting settings instead.
And also if this will work then don’t forget to like and mark as solution on it
You don’t need a VPN—Google and Pinterest don’t rank content based on where it’s published from, but on relevance, quality, and SEO. As long as your Shopify store and pins are optimized with US‑focused keywords, valuable content, and proper targeting, you can reach US customers organically regardless of your physical location.
Hi @MEZ_MUS,
No. You do not need to use a VPN to target US customers.
In fact, using a VPN can often cause more harm than good. Security systems on Shopify and Pinterest might flag your account for suspicious login activity if your IP address keeps changing. Unlike TikTok, both Google and Pinterest care more about relevance and quality, not your physical location.
Instead of using a VPN, you just need to send the right “signals” on your website and profiles. Here is what actually works:
- Check your profile settings: Go into your Pinterest account settings and set your location to the United States and your language to English.
- Use US English spelling: Make sure your descriptions use US spelling (for example, write “color” instead of “colour” or “pajamas” instead of “pyjamas”).
- Show US currency and shipping: Always display prices in USD ($) and make sure your US shipping times are clearly written on every product page.
- Use proper technical SEO: Your website code needs to tell Google that your products are available to US shoppers.
To make this easier, I recommend trying SearchPie: SEO, Speed & Schema. It automatically builds advanced structured data (JSON-LD) for your store, optimizes your meta tags, and keeps your site speed fast so you can rank higher in US search results without touching any code.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your store!
Hi @MEZ_MUS
In most cases, you don’t need a US VPN to target a US audience.
Shopify doesn’t rank or serve your store based on the country you are managing it from. Well matter most is how you modified/optimized your store for your target audience.
I’d focus on things like:
- Pricing in USD (if you’re targeting the US)
- Fast page load speeds
- US-friendly shipping and return policies
- Good SEO and content
- Targeting US audiences through Pinterest, Google, or Meta ads
A VPN can be useful if you want to preview your store from a US customer’s perspective (pricing, geo-targeted content). But it’s not a requirement for your store or publishing content
