It can’t just be UK addresses that regularly have 3 rows to the main address (sometimes 4).
Can we at least have a third address field for the main body of the address (before city, zip etc)?
What ends up happening is the customer combines rows to fit the whole address into the two available fields and then it rightly gets flagged as an incorrectly formatted address.
It’s completely standard practice to have at least 3 in most other platforms as far as I can see.
It is possible to add additional address fields within the Shopify checkout by using the Checkout Extensibility. However, in order to use this - you will need to be using the Shopify Plus subscription plan.
I can certainly see the benefit of allowing all Shopify merchants to add more address fields for customers using the Shopify checkout! I am going to provide this thread and feedback to our developers as a suggestion to include. I appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention.
Unfortunately Shopify Plus is well outside of our reach and it’ll be quite a while until it makes business sense for us to upgrade (though I’ll be a significant milestone indicating that things are going well when we get to that point!).
I feel that capturing good quality address data is such a fundamental aspect for all of your customers that it shouldn’t be a premium feature so I’m pleased to hear that you will be passing it on to the developers.
The frictionless nature of the Shopify checkout process is a big plus point of Shopify imo so it’s a touch surprising that this (hopefully small but definitely real) bit of friction should feature.
