PLEASE HELP: Shop coding issues

Hi there,

I’m opening an online store for a company and I am using the “collections” function to separate my long list of 70 items into several categories for easier browsing. However, if I click on any collection on my homepage i.e. “accessories”, it will direct me to my “various collections” page instead of showing the items within a collection.

If I click “caps” or “travelling accessories” on this page, it just puts me on the same “various collections” page instead of showcasing the items within the “clicked” collection.

I’ve also tried clicking “view all” on my homepage where some of the items are shown, but it leads me to the same page.

I have reached out to Shopify Support earlier and they talked about how it’s a coding related problem and referred me over here to look for advice or help. I really hope this can be solved as it is quite a dilemma if the collection doesn’t work, and it is pretty important.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hi, it looks like you’ve had someone customise the Dawn theme. But for some reason its showing the collection list template and not the collection template. Did you edit the theme yourself, or get a dev to do it, or buy it from someone? I’m not even sure how someone could mess that up, I’m pretty sure you’d need to edit the json template to add in the wrong section…

Hi! Thanks for reaching out to me, I’ve been doing everything myself, but don’t remember editing the coding stuff. Have been uploading product photos and moving stuff with the usual website editor. Is there any chance I can get it back to default? For say by switching themes and switching back?

she’s a bit of a longshot, but go to edit the code, and have a look in the templates folder, find the colletion.json file and let me know what is in the “order” part. It should look like this… hopefully:

"order": [
    "banner",
    "product-grid"
  ]

If that all looks good, then have a look in the Online Theme → Customize, Select your Collections page from the drop down at the top, and I’m assuming you’ve just got the default collection page template? In the page options on the left you should have a Collection banner and then Product grid. If there’s anything else in there, let me know.

Thanks for your help! Will have to check it out tomorrow at work, hope this works out!

Hi! The issue is gone right as I unhid the grid and banner, and changed the order to the one you stated (collection banner, product grid). Thanks for the help! Will see if there’s any follow-ups but hopefully none :slightly_smiling_face: Thanks again!

lol rightio, so its the product grid that shows the products. If that was hide, then that’s why the products weren’t showing. Glad you got it sorted.
