I have an online website business already set up & working for past 4 years with Wix.
I wanted to change it over to shopify. I set up my shopify account over 5 weeks ago & have been paying them since that date. I have created my shopify website & its is ready to launch.
I have contacted my third party domain company who say i need the new shopify codes to switch my domain.
I have contacted Wix to let them know im moving & they have tried to help, but say its up to shopify to help with the domain switch.
For the past 4 weeks all shopify have done have sent me useless links & videos & their chat never works & emails go un answered with ZERO support or help…Dont forget im paying shopify for absolutely no service what so ever!
I shocked at the lack of help.
Im not computer savvy what so ever so all i need is a simple step by step to enter this code into this place so my domain can be switched over..
PLEASE can someone help me!
Do shopify have people who can actually help on here? Im so disappointed in their lack of service. Really thought after paying them & spending hours creating the new website they would then have some sort of support to personally help with the very technical part of the domain switch, the part the needs the most help with.
Online store > Domains > Connect existing domain > Transfer domain. When this is done, management of your domain moves to Shopify, meaning you adjust your domain settings, pay for your domain, and renew your domain directly in your Shopify admin. The transfer process can take up to Shopify from Wix can take up to 20 days, but generally this is much shorter. During this period, however, your domain should still be active and you shouldn’t experience any downtime.

Thank you for reaching out to the Shopify Community Forums for support. There are two different ways to have your domain point to Shopify. One is to transfer the domain hosting from your third party domain to Shopify for hosting or updating your DNS settings in your domain host so that the customers are redirected to your Shopify store. I believe from what you have shared here that the second option, redirecting the domain traffic, is the one you are looking for. If that is not correct, please reply back here to let me know and I will ensure to get you the alternate steps!
To update your DNS settings to point your domain to your new Shopify store should look like this:
Sign into your domain host.
Navigate to where you can edit the DNS settings for your domain.
Replace your existing A [email removed] record and CNAME WWW record to this:
Your A record should point to Shopify’s IP address, which is 23.227.38.65.
Your www CNAME record should point to shops.myshopify.com.
If you have more than one A [email removed] record, please delete them as they will interfere with the domain connection.
Once your DNS has been updated you will want to sign into your Shopify store admin and go to Online Store > Domains (from the left hand column)
Click on “Connect Existing Domain” from the top of the page
Enter your domain URL and click next.
Shopify will then attempt to verify your DNS settings. This can take up to 48 hours and if you have the option to continue without finishing the verification you can do so.
If after 48 hours the domain still shows as not connected or “SSL Pending” please reply back here with a screenshot of your DNS settings and what you are seeing in the Shopify admin and I can help you troubleshoot that.
This should be the steps in order you can take them to finish connecting your domain! Depending on your domain host you may be provided with slightly different options from within the Shopify admin when asked to verify the DNS settings. Just follow the onscreen prompts when you get to that point and the process should finish on it’s own.
