Please reinstate and/or add "not tagged with" filtering option to all searches and filters

Topic summary

A “not tagged with” filtering option was recently added to Shopify’s product/inventory filters but disappeared within days, breaking existing saved filters in the process. Users found this feature valuable for managing inventory beyond basic needs.

User requests:

  • Restore the “not tagged with” filter and extend it to products, orders, and customers
  • Bring back the ability to modify existing filters and “save as” with new names (currently requires creating filters from scratch)
  • Gather store owner feedback before making major UI/UX changes
  • Avoid adding then removing features without warning

Workaround suggested:
One user recommends the WHF Smart Tags app as a temporary solution. It allows creating inverse tag conditions (e.g., tagging all products NOT on sale as “full price” to enable filtering). The app requires direct installation from the developer’s website since it’s no longer listed on the Shopify App Store.

The discussion remains unresolved, awaiting Shopify’s response to feature restoration.

As recently as few days ago or so there was a new option to filter either products or inventory by “not tagged with” filter. This was very helpful and convenient so we started using it right away and were hoping the option would extend to products, orders, and customrs next.

Instead it disappeared completely while breaking a couple of existing saved filters in the process.

Unfortunatly with even slightly more than basic inventory, existing filters are not enough.

  1. Please reinstate/add the “not tagged with” filter option

  2. Additionally, please reinstate a previous feature when it was possibly to modify an existing filter and immediately “save as” with a distinct name. Right now every filter has to be created from the beginning.

  3. Please get feedback from store owners before making UI/UX and radically modifying key parts of store management (please see the “new and improved” inventory fiasco for the most recent example)

  4. Please don’t add features for a few weeks, then remove them without any warning (see 3 for what could help)

Thank you

Until Shopify chooses to restore this feature, I am using an app called WHF Smart Tags. I had already added a tag in our store for all products that are on sale, but if I wanted to filter our products by those not tagged with the sale tag I couldn’t. Using WHF Smart Tags allowed me to set multiple conditions for products and tag them with a new tag. The condition I used is All products with tags not equal to sale and with inventory greater than “0” tag as “full price”. Then I can filter my products by those tagged with “full price”. It’s not a perfect solution, but it works for now.

Note: The Smart Tags app is no longer available on the Shopify App Store, which is where the above link takes you, but click the developer website link from the Shopify App Store link above to install it directly. Or, there are plenty of other tagging apps available on the Shopify App Store.
