Confirming that the correct number of things has been scanned is essential to all pos systems. This should not have been removed.
Topic summary
A POS (point-of-sale) update removed the unit/item count confirmation during checkout. The participant argues that verifying the number of scanned items is essential for POS accuracy and should not have been removed. No decisions or resolutions were noted; the issue remains open.
I agree, we’ve been using Shopify POS for a number of years now and the item count is essential as we have a lot of small items that need to be counted as we scan them in.
Shopify when can we have this facility back please?
Dave
Shopify product team, what good reason would you have to remove a basic feature like that?
Please bring it back asap.
Hey there,
This is Aaron from the Retail Team here at Shopify!
Thank you so much for sharing your question with the Shopify Community regarding your experience with the Shopify POS app not displaying the total item count in the POS Cart. I completely understand how important this can be.
Rather than this being a technical issue, it was instead an intended design update, which was released through Version 10.19 of our POS app. Based on our merchants feedback regarding this update, we are looking into implementing a better update that will display the quantities of the items in the POS Cart.
We are hoping to have this released in one of our following updates for the POS app, and I would recommend referring to “Make sure that your software is up to date” resource to ensure that the POS app is updated to the latest version once it has been released.
Thanks,
Aaron | Retail Support Specialist
@AaronD when is that update expected? I don’t see the logic of removing a feature in the promise of a better version in the future. I worked in software development, and you are supposed to replace features, not remove and make the customer wait without it.
Hey there @TomBuckabee ,
At this moment, there is not an ETA of which update this will be released with. However, we are actively working on having it released as fast as possible.
With regards to the feature itself, I completely understand your point. More so, it was a case of where an update was released to remove the item count, and based on feedback from our merchants who outlined how important this is for them, we then began looking into reimplementing it in a better way. Therefore, it was not a case of where the feature was temporarily removed only for it to be formatted in a better manner.
Thanks,

puzzling update which removes something as essential as item count. dev team just landed from a different planet? get us this cart item count back ASAP please. stop messing up what works and put in unnecessary “portfolio” enhancing features for devs.
@AaronD Any update on fixing this? This is a real pain point for us every time a customer walks in.
We really would love to have this back. It seems so bizzare that it was taken away.
Hey @TomBuckabee
The item count was updated with Version 10.20.0, which was released on February 3, 2026.
I’ve also attached an image below of what the update looks like.
Thanks,
Aaron | Retail Support Specialist
@AaronD Thank you for the update. We use an Android tablet, and the latest version is still 10.19.3. Is there an estimate for when the android version will be updated?
@AaronD we just got 10.20.0. Very very happy to have the item count back! Also, the POS seems to work faster when adding items and discounts to the cart. That’s really huge as the app was very sluggish when connected to the terminal. It’s still not snappy like Square, but a huge improvement. Please forward this positive feedback. Thank you
