Bug Report: Payment Info from Previous Order Persisting in Cart Without Hitting DONE
Hi Shopify Community,
I want to flag a bug I’ve been experiencing with the POS cart behavior that has changed recently and is causing a significant issue with back-to-back sales. (I’ve attached a photo below of the Ipad screen so you can see what happens)
What’s happening:
If you process two sales in a row without pressing the DONE button between them, the credit card information from the first order carries over into the second cart. Even more concerning, it shows that amount — charged to order 1 — as having been paid toward order 2.
What used to happen:
Previously, you did not need to hit DONE to start a new cart. Once a payment was processed and the order was complete, the cart cleared automatically — including all payment information. This was the expected and reliable behavior.
Current behavior:
That automatic clearing is no longer happening. Payment details from the prior transaction persist into the next cart, which creates a risk of charging incorrect amounts or misapplying payment info across orders.
Reproducibility:
I was able to reproduce this issue twice consecutively, so this appears to be a consistent bug, not a one-time glitch.
Why this matters:
In a fast-paced sales environment, it’s easy to move straight from one transaction to the next. Requiring an extra manual step (DONE) to clear sensitive payment data — without any warning that this is now necessary — is a real risk to both accuracy and customer data integrity.
Has anyone else experienced this? I’d appreciate any insight from the community or Shopify support on whether this is a known issue and if there’s a fix or workaround in the meantime.
Thanks
