Currently, I see that it’s only possible to create discount codes (manual), not automatic discounts.
Is there another way to create an automatic discount and assign it to a specific customer segment?

In the Shopify Discounts settings, you can create automatic product discounts and order offers on your store. Just set them as automatic and choose the customers you’d like to reward.
For the “Amount off products,” you’ll see the discounts automatically applied to the product pages. For the “Amount off order,” you will find it on the checkout page.

For any who’s coming across this thread, post Q3 2025. Please note that this is an inbuilt Shopify feature now and you really don’t need any app to do these type of discounts any more.
I’ve attached a help article below that runs through this.
On the other hand, Shopify function based apps are excellent for discounts that are more complex than the basic $ / % / BxGy types that Shopify offers.
