POS Draft order support - Feature request

Will POS ever support Draft Orders?

My business and I am sure a million others are using draft orders, for quotes, repairs, warranty, phone orders, pick-up orders, and many other things.

At the moment, there is no way to open draft orders on POS or to take payment in person for a draft order using POS.

Draft orders are a part of Shopify and it makes no sense why POS is not supported ( only need a button “Open Draft order / Create Draft order”)

The available workarounds at the moment:

-Using buggy and unreliable apps that can do something like that but have a ton of issues

-Taking CC payment manually or mark the order as paid (both mess up reporting)

Shopify Please consider this for the next update!

Thanks:)

Greetings, @Dor_falu .

Thank you for reaching out and sharing this suggestion!

I understand that your business needs draft orders for many things (eg. quotes, repairs, warranty, phone orders, pick-up orders, etc.), and, as there isn’t a way to do this at the moment, you’d like to see this functionality added to the Shopify POS in future releases. That being said, I’d be more than happy to pass this feedback along to our development team on your behalf. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to the Shopify POS, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.

Alternatively, there are some workarounds that you can consider for dealing with some of the draft order scenarios in-person. For example, the Shopify app allows you to create draft orders and collect payments, which is ideal for quotes, repairs, phone orders, and possibly more. On the other hand, you can also consider creating products for some of these services, such as repairs or warranty, and make the products available for the Point of sale sales channel only - this way, your staff wouldn’t need to keep creating products/services and they can simply add them like a product instead.

I’d love to hear more about your business! What kinds of products do you sell? Are you running any ad campaigns to grow your business at the moment? Or, do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Echoing this request to increase “draft order” functionality in the POS app. I often use the “send cart” function on the POS app for customers not yet ready to buy in store. That creates a draft order in Shopify if I log in via a browser.

However, it would be far more useful to me if I could simply view draft orders in the POS application on a tablet instead. For example, it’s important for us to be able to add tags to draft orders internally to help attribute/track sales that ultimately convert online. Having to separately login to Shopify via a full web browser to do this in highly inconvenient.

Hey, @KickstartAA .

Thank you for joining the thread!

I understand that the functionality to create and view draft orders through Shopify POS is important to you and I’d be more than happy to add you to this feature request. While this isn’t something that we would have a timeline on, we’ll be sure to announce any upcoming platform updates or changes on the Shopify Changelog.

With that being said, instead of using Shopify through the web browser on your mobile device, you can also consider using the Shopify mobile app so that you don’t need to login separately. Both, the Shopify POS and Shopify mobile apps, are capable of storing credentials and can be used in tandem on mobile devices.

I’d love to hear more about your business! What kinds of products do you sell? Have you used the Shopify mobile app on any of your devices before?

I also echo this request. Pulling up Draft orders in POS would be a tremendous time saver and help with the flow of pickup orders. Is there an official feature request for this that I can vote on or something?

Hey, @aceinthelowell .

Thanks so much for joining this thread and voicing your support for this feature!

It is through feedback and feature requests provided by merchants, like yourself, that allows us to improve the platform. While there isn’t a single place to vote for feature requests, we’d be more than happy to add you to this feature request. We also encourage other merchants to get in touch with us to share any feedback or suggestions as they can help our developers prioritize the development of new features for our platform. As previously mentioned, we’ll be sure to announce any new features and/or platform changes on the Shopify Changelog.

I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community and I’d love to hear more about your business! What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Hi there, this app, Draft And Custom Orders For POS, (https://apps.shopify.com/draft-and-custom-orders-for-pos) can likely help.

Before this app, you would have to go into the Shopify Admin (on the computer) to create or edit a draft order, and then in order to checkout/charge a customer, you would have to email/send them the invoice link or charge them through your computer. Now with this app, you can create a custom draft order right within POS, and you can add that draft order straight to the POS cart in order to checkout/charge the customer inside your retail store or in person.

It also now accurately reflects the amount properly in your inventory and reporting.

Then once you checkout a customer with a draft order, you can view the completed order in the orders section of the POS app, and do whatever you’d like (e.g. print a receipt)

With Draft And Custom Orders For Shopify POS you can now do the following all within the Shopify POS app for any device:

  1. Add existing products from your current inventory
  2. Create and attach a new service (including the length of the service, the per-hour rate, and any supplementary notes)
  3. Create and attach any new custom products that aren’t currently in your inventory
  4. Specify a workflow status with your custom draft order (i.e. New, Estimate, Open, Pending, Completed)
  5. Create a new and/or attach an existing customer to the custom draft order
  6. Set a discount on the overall custom draft order
  7. Email the breakdown of the custom draft order to the selected customer
  8. Add the custom draft order straight to the POS cart

I’m not paying yet another fee for yet another app for something that should be built into the platform. This is a simple thing that should be handled by Shopify.

I 100% agree and have no idea why Shopify hasn’t taken care of this issue already. We rig boats and need to send the customer a quote before and after the work is completed. Right now this is a very cumbersome process. All we need is the ability to see draft quotes in the POS system and the problem would be solved. Shopify when are you going to add this critical feature???

Hey, @BassFishinElect .

Thank you for joining the thread.

We appreciate you for sharing the context on why you need to create draft orders on the Shopify POS, and we’d be happy to add you to this feature request. While we’re unable to provide any sort of time frame on this matter, we’ll be sure to announce any new features or changes on the Shopify Changelog.

On the other hand, if you need to create draft orders in-person, then you can also consider using the Shopify mobile app. The Shopify mobile app can be used along with Shopify POS on the same device, and it can allow you to create draft orders like in the Shopify admin. From there, you can send the invoice to the customer or you can process the payment manually on behalf of the customer.

If you have any other questions on this topic, don’t hesitate to let me know!

Any movement on this? It’s been a year since OP post and it’s a pretty common function!

Yes! We need this functionality! And using the Shopify app does not solve the problem. Charging customers manually is not an ideal solution.
