Possible scammer

Is there a way to check if a person who is claiming to be a Shopify partner is legit or not? I was messaged via Instagram and weve been conversing. I saw somewhere where it said to ask for a profile link. Said partners don’t have a link just collaboration. Sent a screenshot of a Shopify page which matches the Instagram that messaged me. I searched directory but didn’t find anything and don’t know if I searched correctly.

Hi,

Any Shopify Expert or Partner would be listed in here https://www.shopify.com/partners/directory/services

You should filter based on ratings and can then select the highest rated partners. You should directly contact them from the form in the above link.

Please don’t forget to Like and Mark Solution to the post that helped you. Thanks!

Hi there, this is a great question. I want to share some additional context for you and help you choose a trustworthy partner for your account.

@ES1 has the right idea, suggesting our Partner Directory as a great resource for finding a reliable partner for your business. Not all partners are listed in that directory though. Our Partner Directory is a list of seasoned and veteran developers, approved by our Partner support team. This is a great option for finding an experienced developer.

Becoming a partner on the Shopify platform is free, anyone can sign up and create partner account at any time. Reliable and trustworthy partners will be able to show examples of their work, have reviews available from previous merchants they have worked with and should have an active and dedicated online presence showcasing their skills. Everyone has to get started somewhere though, so if your partner is not able to provide you with much you will need to discuss with them to detail your expectations and how and when they will be paid and work is executed.

A legitimate Shopify partner should have a partner account, be able to accept collaboration access to your existing store or create a development store for you to access if creating a new store and will submit invoices and collect payment through their partner account on Shopify. You can learn more about the Shopify Partner Program here.

Some other questions to consider:

  • Did you find them, or did they find you?
  • Do you fully understand the work they are doing on your store, or is it obscure/vague?
  • Are they upfront about the cost of the work and expected results?
  • Are they making promises that seem too good to be true?
  • Have you received secondary quotes from other partners for the expected work?

At the end of the day, just like outsourcing any work for your business or home, you need to rely on your instincts and closely review the past work done by this person. Our community team is always happy to support.
