Can I use Shopify to create a sophisticated product configurator?

Yep — that kind of configurator is technically possible with Shopify, but not out of the box. It usually requires custom Liquid logic, JavaScript interactivity, and sometimes integration with an app or custom script to handle dynamic pricing and previews.
You can build it on any Shopify plan, but getting it to work smoothly (like the example you shared) definitely involves some custom development. If you’d like, I can walk you through how i came about this for my store.
Considering the amount of form and bundle apps, plugins, and extensions this site has gone through, I highly doubt it’s custom built. There are all kinds of product configurators and visualizers in the app store, not to mention 3rd party stuff, and even ai generators.

You can definitely use Shopify to create a sophisticated product configurator, on any Shopify plan.
This configurator experience you sent is interesting. It looks like you go to a configurator app on a different subdomain altogether, make your product selections in the configurator experience, and when you click “Complete order”, it sends you back to the Shopify store and adds the selected components to your cart. Looking quickly at the source code, I’d guess it’s custom-built.
There may be some Shopify apps that give you a somewhat similar experience on your storefront out of the box, but if you want that exact experience, you’d likely have to build it custom.
I build custom bundle experiences with my app, Flex Bundles, and a fancy custom product configurator seems like an exact fit for the kind of things I do.
