Post purchase page settings causing onboarding issues

We recently got our first Shopify marketplace listing approved. It’s an app that enriches the post-purchase experience.

Only once we got approved we realised that the merchant needs to go to their store settings, choose the ‘Checkout and account’ section, find the ‘Post-purchase page’ settings within it (which requires plenty of scrolling and is easy to miss in a very busy page), and select our app from a radio button list. See screenshot below.

Needless to say this experience is quite clunky, and we’ve already heard back from two merchants that our widget doesn’t work only to find out that they hadn’t toggle our app on in the ‘Post-purchase page’ setting. That is why I want to explore whether there are ways to automate it or at least reduce the friction for our merchants.

Three ideas come to mind:

  1. When a merchant installs an app that leverages the Post-checkout experience, toggle it on automatically, provided it’s the only installed app leveraging Post-checkout.
  2. Give us a way to prompt merchants to toggle our app upon completion of their app setup, e.g. a system modal we can call.
  3. Expose an API endpoint which allows us to toggle that setting programmatically. (I appreciate that this option may not be something you’d feel comfortable with as it may in theory be open to dark UX solutions, but I think given the thorough review process we went through, the risk of a developer partner abusing the system is next to non-existent.)

I’d really appreciate your help with the above as it currently hampers our self-serve onboarding significantly :folded_hands:

Cheers,

Nico
