Presale Questions Before Creating a Store with Shopify

I’m thinking about moving from a custom website to Shopify but want to see if several of these key cart features exist, whether they are already built-in with Shopify or if there are 3rd party plugins available.

Key Points:

My business sells fresh pasta that must be packaged with dry ice and arrive within 48 hours at its destination.

I ship throughout the Continental US. I use three different size boxes to ship out my orders. My current cart is configured to know which box to select and calculate UPS shipping charges. For example, in my custom admin, when I enter products, they are assigned a “unit number” and after the customer selects all of their items, the box size is determined by the total number of units.

Questions:

  1. Based on the details I provided via my existing cart, is there a way in Shopify to accomplish box selection/UPS calculations?

Also, I do offer nonperishable products that don’t need to arrive within 48 hours. If I customer orders both perishable and nonperishable items, how is something like this handled with Shopfiy?

  1. Is there a way to add a hidden charge for S&H that can be applied to the UPS calculated shipping charge?

  2. I provide Gift Cards. Is it seamless to integrate with Shopify to allow customers to make purchases using my gift cards?

  3. Is there easy reorder for returning customers?

  4. I only ship out orders on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. While this will be mentioned throughout the website, I also want the user to be notified

  5. Promo Codes - Can they be set to both fixed amount and percentages? And one time code for a specific customer?

  6. Is there a way to display Recommended products with Select Products?

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses: Is there a store locator plugin available? In addition to selling my products online, they can also be purchased throughout a few hundred super markets.

  1. Lost Order Tracking - Do Reports go into detail about this? Also when I use other ecommerce sites and leave with items in my cart without paying, I’ll get emailed soon after asking I wanted to continue with my purchase. Does Shopify offer something like this?

Thank you in advace!

  1. Box Selections for Size and Weight:

    • Yes, Shopify provides the option to set up box selections based on size and weight.
  2. Hidden Charge for S&H:

    • Shopify allows additional fees for shipping rates. In the shipping settings, you can add handling fees, either fixed or a percentage of the order total.
  3. Gift Cards Integration:

    • Shopify supports seamless integration of gift cards. You can enable and manage gift cards in your Shopify admin under “Settings” > “Gift cards.”
  4. Easy Reorder for Returning Customers:

    • While there’s no built-in “easy reorder” feature, customers can log in to their accounts, view order history, and easily reorder items.
  5. Shipping Days Notification:

    • Although there’s no built-in feature for restricting shipping to specific days, you can inform customers in your store policies. Apps on the Shopify App Store may help set up notifications based on your shipping schedule.
  6. Promo Codes:

    • Yes, Shopify allows you to create promo codes, both fixed amounts and percentages. These codes can be set as one-time use per customer and limited to specific products or collections.
  7. Display Recommended Products:

    • Shopify allows the display of related or recommended products on product pages. You can manually select related products in the product editor or use apps from the Shopify App Store.
  8. Store Locator Plugin:

    • There are store locator apps on the Shopify App Store to set up a locator for customers to find physical locations where your products are sold. These apps often include features like map integration and location filtering.
  9. Lost Order Tracking and Abandoned Cart Emails:

    • Shopify provides order tracking and detailed reports in the admin dashboard. Abandoned cart emails are supported; you can set up automated reminders in your Shopify admin under “Settings” > “Checkout” > “Abandoned checkouts.”

Beaux, thank you so much for this information.

I just have one follow-up question regarding your response to my first bullet point:

Box Selections for Size and Weight:

Yes, Shopify provides the option to set up box selections based on size and weight.

Just to be clear, as customers continue to add products to their carts, Shopify will be able to calculate which box those items will fit in? If so, from the products perspective, how is that calculated? For example, are product measurements entered into the admin?

Thank you!

Just following up to my previous question???
