Prestige theme "merging" 2 different pages in navigation

Hello

I’m pretty new to this. My goal is to update my webshop and decided to get the prestige theme. However, I’ve been struggling with the navigation menu. I have 2 different pages, which I made. One for a list of brands and the other one is about us page.

The problem is, the 2 pages are merging, when i try to edit them. When I edit one of the pages, the other is edit exactly the same way. How do I seperate them?

Hope you can help :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for your good question.

Please share your site URL,
I will check out the issue and provide you a solution here.

Here it is. https://sanderhouse.dk/pages/om-os

It’s in danish, but between “om os/about us” and “brands” it’s exactly like each other.

Hi there @dale0041 .

When you are editing a page in your theme editor you will want to take note of the template you are editing. By default, all new pages you create will have the Default template applied. Any layout or design changes made to this default template in your theme editor will be applied to all pages using that template.

If you would like a page to have a different layout and design you will want to create a new template and apply it to that page only. This way when you edit the template, it will only effect the one page (or however many pages you apply the template to). For example, in your situation you would want to create a new template for your “About Us” page and a separate template for your “Brands” page so that they can each have a different a layout and design. You can read more about creating templates and how to apply them to a page on this page here.

For context, you can see which template you’re editing at the top of the page in your theme editor like this:

As I mentioned, all new pages will have the default template applied, but you can change which template is applied to a page by going to the specific page in your Shopify Admin and editing this Theme Template setting here:

Please let us know if you have any other questions about this. I’m happy to look into this with you further!

@dale0041

yes, please create separate page template and try

Hello @Erin_1

Sorry for the late reply. I have been trying it, but it seem like it won’t work because it won’t. I even tried to delete pages and make new one. I tried to seperate template, but it just starts with default when I’m looking in the preview. But it seems like it is saved, but not used.

Hi @dale0041

Thank you for your reply. Can you walk me through the steps you are taking to create the template and the steps you are taking to apply the template to the page?

These are the steps you will want to follow to create a new template:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.
  3. Open the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
  4. Use the dropdown menu to select a template. Click + Create template.
  5. Give your template a unique name.
  6. Using the dropdown menu, select which existing template you want to base your new template on.
  7. Click Create template.

And these are the steps you can take to apply that new template to a page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
  2. Click the title of the store page.
  3. In the Online store section, use the dropdown menu to select a new theme template to apply to the selected page.
  4. Click Save.

When you are applying templates to a page you can only choose from templates that exist in your current theme so if you are trying to apply a template from a theme that is not yet published as your current theme, those templates won’t appear as options. As soon as you publish the theme those templates will become available as options.

You can still preview how a page will look with a certain template by using your theme editor. To do this you will want to go to into your theme editor, select which template you want to use, and then click Change on the left side of the page to select which page you want to preview with your template.

I did all of the above. I found the guide the same guide in the link you provided me with. However at step 1 from the image you just sendt, how do i save that? I choose the template and it did something, but I can’t save it.

Hi @dale0041

When you click Create template it should automatically save as a new template. That being said, to be sure it saves correctly I would recommend first adding in the sections and blocks you want for the template. Then you will see the Save button on the top right of the page, which you can use to save the changes you’ve made.

Once you’ve done this you can apply your template to the correct page(s) within your Shopify Admin (as long as you’ve already published that theme).

If you aren’t ready to publish the theme yet, you can also test the template by following the steps I shared previously on how to preview a page with a certain template in your theme editor. You can also find the steps on this page here.

If this is still not working for you, please let me know what is happening. If you share the steps you are taking to create the template and apply your template to a page I will be able to help troubleshoot this further.

Hello again. I have done it, but when I switch from one page to another (from nevigation bar), it changes back to default template, is that normal? Because it look like it works but, I’m starting to think it is because I have to publish it.

@Erin_1

I was wondering, it the assigned to pages has something to do with it. It’s on 0 at the moment.

Almost all of them is 0.

Hi @dale0041

Have you already applied the template to the page within your Shopify Admin? As I’ve mentioned, if you would like a page to use a different template than the default template, you will need to apply/assign your template to the page(s) within your Shopify Admin. This can be done following these steps here. I’ve included a screenshot to show how you can do this. The steps are written out below as well.

Steps to apply a new template to a page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
  2. Click the title of the store page.
  3. In the Online store section, use the dropdown menu to select a new theme template to apply to the selected page.
  4. Click Save.

The templates that will be available to you as options here will only be templates from your current theme, the theme you have published. If you would like to test how a template from an unpublished theme will look with a specific product you can follow these steps here to view the preview using the theme editor. Once you are ready to publish your theme you can then apply the templates to the correct pages so that it appears correctly on your storefront.

Steps to preview template:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.
  3. Open the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
  4. Use the dropdown menu to select a template.
  5. In the sidebar, click Change.
  6. Select the product or page you want to preview with the selected template.

I already did, and it does change, but it does not save as the template. It just goes to back to default, and I have to click on the test template each time.

I actually don’t know what to do anymore to make sure it is set on the template and not the default.

Actually I just noticed, my template does not show up on “pages” when I have to assign the template to a page. It has a lot of other options, but not the one i made.

Hi @dale0041

Thank you for trying all of that out. In this case I would recommend reaching out to our live support using this page here so that they can help walk you through this live. You can share the link to this forum post with them so that they can see all of the troubleshooting we’ve done already. They will be able to look at your account with you and ensure everything is working as expected.

I see, thank you for your help anyway. I’ll try that!

Same problem. I just read this whole entire chat and still nothing has worked if you have figured it out, please help me out!!!

Hi, @Flood123 . I’m happy to look into this with you as well. I just have a couple of questions to make sure I understand your specific situation and give you accurate advice.

  • Are you also using the Prestige theme or are you using a different theme?
  • Can you tell me more about what you are trying to do and what’s happening? For example, what pages are you working on and where in your navigation are you trying to connect those pages?

I’m looking forward to hearing back from you!
