Prevent Browsers from Translating my Page?

Hello everyone. We are a North American retailed only, and we are not supposed to fulfill orders that we believe are headed overseas, even by a proxy shipper. SO…to minimize the number of such orders coming in to us, I am wondering if there is a simple way either in Shopify or in my theme code to prevent browsers from translating our page from English into other languages. Is that possible? Thanks for your help!

Hi there @RyanHPRC !

Thanks for reaching out to share your query with us here in the Shopify Community.

I’m not aware of a method available to prevent the translation of a store by browsers, but I would like to give some advice I hope will be helpful in achieving the aims you have outlined here.

I’d like to share a couple of strategies we have seen merchants use in similar situations so you can think about how you might be able to approach this.

One way to prevent people outside a given geographical range from checking out in your store would be to simply not provide shipping zones for those areas in any of your shipping profiles.

This might mean setting up zones covering Mexico, the USA, and Canada in your case and not having any other regions covered in any of your shipping profiles.

Any customer trying to complete an order with an address outside of these countries would not have the option available at the checkout for that address and will be unable to complete their order.

There are also geoblocking and geolocation apps available in our app store which some of our merchants use to prevent access or purchase from given regions.

It looks like Blocky: Fraud Country Blocker has a number of good reviews and a free, pay-as-you-go type plan so it might be worth checking out.

Have you got some info or text available on your store to indicate to visitors that shipping is only supported for certain regions?

Hi Don. Thanks for the response. We do only allow shipping to the 50 states plus US territories and overseas military and diplomatic addresses. The problem is that a lot of these overseas shoppers will use proxy shippers that have a US address. We are hoping to cut back on those types of orders.

I will look at those geoblocking apps. Thank you.

Ryan
