So you have both your ipad and the printer connected to the 2g specifically? I put my printer on the 2g but left the ipad on the 5g and direct connected the printer to the modem. It still drops daily. Did you connect your printer through shopify “add hardware”? Thanks for any help. This has been going on for 9 months for us now and can’t figure it out with no help.
Topic summary
Multiple Shopify merchants are experiencing issues with Star Micronics TSP100III receipt printers not appearing in the connected hardware list, preventing them from printing receipts through Shopify POS.
Core Problem:
- Printers complete setup successfully but fail to appear in the connected hardware list
- Issue affects both ethernet and WiFi models
- Printers function normally with other applications, confirming hardware is operational
Shopify Support Issues:
- Slow response times and ineffective troubleshooting
- Recommended solutions don’t resolve the problem
- Multiple users report losing confidence in support team
Working Solutions Found:
- Network frequency issue: The TSP143IIILAN only connects on 2.4GHz networks, not 5GHz
- Assign separate names to 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands on router
- Connect both iPad and printer specifically to 2.4GHz network
- All POS equipment (iPad, printer, scanner) must be on the same network segment
- One user reported upgrading to fiber internet resolved all connectivity issues
Additional Limitation:
- Multiple Star Micronics printers cannot operate on the same network segment with Shopify
- Some users switched to Epson Bluetooth printers as workaround, though this limits flexibility
