The UPS ground rate comes out ok, but the other services, like 3-day are way too high.
My package is 62"x3"x3" actual weight 4lbs. Dimensional weight should be 4lbs, but the shipping cost is being calculated as if the package weighs 40lbs.
Pirate ship, paypal shipping, and even the UPS’s estimator are all giving the shipping price as if it were 40 lbs.
I found your post searching for why UPS has been setting the billable weight to 40 lbs for all long boxes since last fall. Still not getting any answers even though I’ve been on the phone with our UPS rep a few times already. We ship boxes with similar dimensions to yours. Our packages are 57x5x3" with an actual weight of 4 lbs. By UPS’s own calculations, the dimensional weight should be no more than 7 lbs, but they’re calculating it at 40 lbs plus the dimensional surcharge.
UPS hasn’t announced that they’ve made any dimensional calculation changes, but this calculation shows up no matter which platform I try to find shipping with. I’m going to keep digging into it!
