Hi. There must be an easier way to connect our product tags and categories in Google Merchant. As an apparel brand we have hundreds of SKU’s across colors and sizing but our product are pretty simple as we mostly sell basics like Tees, hoodies etc. Product categorization in Google Merchant and the time it takes to do this is an absolute nightmare. Any ideas?
As you can imagine, with over 5 million Shopify users, tailoring to every single situation is a nightmare.
The google and youtube app does not support product tags.
What I use for my clients is an app called multifeeds, this app can use every Shopify field, and also metafields. So you can setup rules to pull product tags to be used in your data feed. Still needs work to setup, and depending on what you want to do, different rules / setups need to be applied.
So if you want more control and functionality, have a look at: Multifeed Google Shopping Feed - Google Shopping feed, Facebook,... feeds & conversion tracking | Shopify App Store
If you want to stick with the free google and youtube app, then you are limited to only what that app can do.
true. if you map those tags and categories manually, it will take days or even weeks which won’t be wise and feasible. and as you mentioned yourself, the google and youtube app is as such functional and good, but only for basic features.
for such advanced mapping requirements, you might need to consider using a data feed solution.
you can try and use AdNabu. it helps you bulk edit your entire inventory in one go, and update essential attributes such as google product category, color, size (that you want to customize for your business), etc., with ease.
moreover, it also supports, metafields and metaobjects mapping. so, those can be handy.
True, Categorization is a nightmare, but not anymore.
I actually just launched a free app that fixes this specific issue using AI. It scans for missing categories and maps them automatically. You can try the free tier to see if it fixes your error: https://apps.shopify.com/catmap-ai
