Product Duplicate - auto check ALL OPTIONS, really?

Topic summary

Issue: After a recent update, duplicating a product now auto-selects all copy options (e.g., images, SKU, barcodes, inventory quantity), increasing the risk of unintended data carryover.

Impact: Users report added steps to manually uncheck options and potential inventory inaccuracies—especially sensitive given the new purchase order feature. Workflow is slower and more error-prone.

Details: Previously, options were unchecked by default, allowing selective copying. SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) and inventory quantities being copied are cited as high-risk.

User actions: Attempts to find a setting to have options unchecked by default have failed; no workaround identified in the thread.

Perspectives: Participants strongly oppose the change, calling it impractical and time-wasting. No counterarguments or official responses are present.

Status: Unresolved. Key question remains whether Shopify will provide a setting to revert to unchecked-by-default or adjust the duplication behavior.

what’s with the latest update feature, when duplicating products, ALL options are CHECKED?

previously, duplicating products were more sensible and uses less steps. only in rare circumstances where I need to copy images, SKU, barcodes, inventory along to create a new product. why can’t you leave the options ALL UN-CHECKED and let us decide what is necessary to copy over? inventory qty copy over? really? after the new implementation of purchase order feature, now you want managers to mess up the inventory count?

now each duplicate requires me to uncheck all options, unnecessary steps, added to my already time consuming work flow.

seriously shopify, what kind of attention are you folks seeking with these kind of untested, inexperienced bleep making half wit decisions like these?

Totally agree that this is a major pain, I keep forgetting to manually UNCHECK everything when i duplicate products and it creates more work for me when i have to delete all of the stuff that was duplicated because of these stupid check boxes now being auto-selected.. annoying me so much I was trying to search for how i could have everything UNCHECKED by default but I can’t find how to do this. This is wasting me a lot of time which i just can’t afford, a very bad decision from shopify to have these checkboxes all auto selected, it is driving me mental. One of multiple bad decisions I have noticed lately that are making my life harder whilst I am being asked to pay shopify more and more for my subscription… Not happy.
