Product duplication everytime i change something on my POS end

Topic summary

A user reports that their Retail Express POS system creates duplicate products in Shopify whenever they update product information (such as price changes), rather than updating the existing product.

Initial Response:

  • CedCommerce suggests contacting the Retail Express support team directly.

Community Input:

  • Another user confirms experiencing the same duplication issue.

Technical Explanation:

  • TranslatorDerek identifies the likely cause: the Retail Express integration manages product creation and updates independently, and the link between systems may be breaking due to:
    • Manual changes made directly in Shopify (e.g., adding variants)
    • Third-party apps modifying product pricing
    • Only Retail Express should control pricing to maintain proper synchronization

Status: The issue remains unresolved for the original poster, though a potential diagnosis has been provided. TranslatorDerek offers further assistance if more details are shared.

Hi there,

Everytime a product is updated on my POS system (retail express) say for example the price is updated, Shopify creates another product instead of just updating the existing product on shopify..

Why is this? is there a setting i need to change?

thanks!

Having the same issue…. Did you get yours resolved?

Hi,

Everytime a product is updated on my POS system (retail express) say for example the price is updated, Shopify creates another product instead of just updating the existing product on shopify..

The Retail express integration relies upon it creating and updating the products itself. You are doing something in Shopify to break the link such as adding another variant or using an app to create differing prices. Only Retail Express can set the pricing. If you want to give more information we can help resolve the issue.
