I manage the inventory for the shop I work at and I’m constantly adding and changing products in our shop. I’m not the only one who does this, but I am the one that handles making everything uniform and keeping things in proper order. This leads to my questions:
I noticed today, when you’re on the Products page to see all the different items in your inventory, that the status bar no longer shows the Product Type or the Vendor, both of which I heavily rely on for efficiency in determining accuracy of everything.
Yes, you’re not alone in noticing this change—Shopify has recently rolled out updates to the Products admin page, and part of that included adjustments to how the column layout and product attributes are displayed.
Here’s what changed:
Shopify has started streamlining the default columns shown on the Products page (especially for those using the new Admin interface). As a result, Product Type and Vendor are no longer shown by default in the list view. However, you can customize your columns to make them reappear.
How to Re-add “Product Type” and “Vendor” to the Products List:
Go to your Shopify Admin > Products.
In the top-right corner of the product list, click the column icon (table settings) — it looks like a gear or a table/grid.
From the dropdown, you’ll see a list of available columns you can show.
Check the boxes for “Product Type” and “Vendor”.
Click Apply to save your view.
These selections will stay persistent for your user account, so once you enable them, they should stay unless you reset the view or Shopify makes additional changes.
I’ve been so busy with the shop and I just kind of gave up on this at some point because this is exactly what I see as well. I spent hours trying to figure out that it was simply not there & It’s extremely inconvenient for me and my team. Glad I’m not the only one.
We’re in the same situation at Stalefish. There is NO COLUMN ICON on the Products page. Vendor and Product Type are ESSENTIAL for our store organization. It’s also ridiculous that the Product page now auto-sorts to the most recently added product first without the option to select a “default” sort. Why does Shopify insist on making meaningless changes to the backend operations? So frustrating.
