Product Metafields: How to Remove Unused Fields for Specific Products?

I’ve set up 4 metadata fields for products in Shopify, but I don’t want all products to display all fields. Leaving the fields blank doesn’t seem to remove them from view. How can I selectively remove these metadata fields for specific products where I don’t want to use all 4?

Hi @frklaursen ,

If you want to selectively remove or hide certain fields for specific products where they are not applicable, you typically have a few options:

  • Edit metafields directly in Shopify Admin: Go to your Shopify admin dashboard and navigate to the specific product where you want to remove or hide the metafield then simply delete the content of the metafields you want to hide.

  • Use an app for metafield management: There are several Shopify apps available that offer more advanced metafield management capabilities that you can find on app store.

  • Bulk edit using CSV import: If you have a large number of products where you need to modify metafields, export your products to CSV, make changes to metafields in the spreadsheet, and re-import the CSV file after making adjustments.

Hi JuneN,

Thank for getting back to me wanting help me. If I opt for option 1, which seems to be the easiest way out for now, then I will need your help further explaining. What is the Shopify Admin? If it’s my dashboard and I go to Products > Click the product I want to edit > Then I don’t see how I can hide and delete the metafield. So please explain this to me. What am I doing wrong? - FrkLaursen

Thank you, Amalie
