Product page links shared to Twitter/Facebook display incorrect or inconsistent preview images, while the homepage preview (logo) is correct. Some product shares even pull images unrelated to the product, and the image differs by platform.
Troubleshooting tried:
Added Open Graph (OG) meta tags in theme.liquid’s head; no change.
Noted product.liquid has no ; adding one didn’t help.
Another participant applied the suggested OG meta tag code from a referenced reply; product image still doesn’t appear on social shares.
Suggestion offered:
Use the SocialSeal app (OG image generator) to centrally control social preview images via templates (customizable fonts, colors, logo) applied across products and posts.
Notes:
OG meta tags define the image/title/description used by social platforms for link previews.
Status/outcome:
No confirmed fix in-thread. At least one user still experiences the issue after implementing OG tags. Discussion remains open; effectiveness of the app-based approach or other configurations is unconfirmed.
So when I link my website to my homepage on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms, it shows the correct preview image which is just our logo. But the issue is when I try to link one of my product pages it is showing as the completely wrong image (sometimes even an image that’s not even linked to that product). Also, the image that it shows for a particular link isn’t consistent across platforms. It will be one image on Twitter and then another image on Facebook.
I have attempted to change this by adding meta tags in the head tag of my theme.liquid file but there was no success in that. Any help is appreciated, thanks
The way that my product.liquid file is setup currently, it does not have a tag. I have tried adding one at the very top of the file but that did not work. I have yet to find a solution.
I hope the solution suggested by @Relynjon help you solve the issue with the product preview images. However, if you would like to enhance and personalize how the preview images look when sharing on social media (to have it under control), you may try our recently launched app SocialSeal.
With SocialSeal, you can configure one template and easily tailor it to suit your brand’s style – adjust fonts, font size, colors, and even upload your logo to create professional preview images. It takes you a few minutes and the template is used for all your products, posts, and more.
I tried your solution and added the OG meta tag code as you had mentioned, but no change. Product image still not showing when product link is shared in social media. I can DM my site details to you.
