Product prices display with taxes in collection as well as checkout

Topic summary

Goal: Show tax-included prices on collection pages and ensure checkout doesn’t add tax on top, while displaying a separate line indicating the tax included in the item price.

What to do (native setting):

  • Enable “Include tax in product prices” in Settings > Taxes and duties.
  • Effect: All entered prices are treated as tax-inclusive. Checkout and order confirmation show a tax breakdown, but the total does not increase at checkout.

Invoice breakdown question:

  • A participant asked if invoices can show a split like $90 (pre-tax) + $9 tax = $99 (tax-inclusive price).
  • No definitive native confirmation provided in-thread.
  • Suggested solution: Use a third-party app (Fordeer: PDF Invoice Generator) to display pre-tax and tax amounts on invoices. Screenshots indicate configurable invoice layouts.

Attachments:

  • Images show the Shopify tax setting and the invoicing app UI.

Status:

  • Pricing display with tax is resolved via the Shopify setting.
  • Invoice line-item split remains unresolved natively; an app-based workaround is proposed. Discussion appears open on native invoice capabilities.

Hi,

I want to display the product prices with tax in the collections itself. I want to do this so that when customer checksout the final amount payable by customer does not increase with tax but rather shows a separate line item that tax $123 amt of tax was already included in the price of the item.

Would really appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi @gautamrast ,

This can be done by enabling the option to include tax in your product prices:

Enabling this option in Settings > Taxes and duties means all prices you input will be deemed as tax-inclusive by Shopify’s tax system. Your customers will still see a breakdown of the taxes they are paying at checkout and in their order confirmation, but these taxes will not be added on at the checkout page.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have questions.

Awesome, Victor!

Will this show a breakup on the invoice as well?

For example, I am selling something for $99 on my website (incl. tax), which is basically $90 price + $9 [email removed]

Will my invoice also show 90+9=99?

Hi @elemenopeeque , if you need to show the pre-tax amount on your invoices, you could try using our app - Fordeer: PDF Invoice Generator. It’s easy to set up for that. It also has a bunch of features that can handle pretty much all your invoicing needs.
