Product reviews

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner is seeking ways to display product reviews on a custom product page built with a page builder, as the default Shopify review app doesn’t integrate well with their custom layout.

Recommended Solutions:

  • Third-party review apps like Opinew, Judge.me, Loox, and Yotpo offer embed codes, HTML snippets, or shortcodes that can be inserted into custom page builder templates
  • Judge.me is highlighted as a free option that fits custom layouts easily
  • Loox has direct integrations with several page builders, eliminating the need for manual code insertion
  • Manual insertion is possible using Liquid code to pull reviews from metafields (e.g., {% for review in product.metafields.reviews %})

Implementation approach:
Most apps provide widget codes or JavaScript snippets from their dashboards that dynamically load reviews based on the current product. These can be placed in custom HTML blocks within page builders and styled with CSS to match the site design.

The consensus is that using a dedicated review app with embedding capabilities offers the most flexible and dynamic solution for custom templates.

Hey everyone, I’m working on a Shopify store with a custom product page built using a page builder. I want to display product reviews on the product page, but the default Shopify review app doesn’t seem to integrate well with the custom layout.

Is there a way to manually insert reviews into a custom product template?
Would an app like Opinew or another reviews app allow me to embed reviews dynamically?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi @HulkyZo ,

Yes, you can manually insert reviews into your custom product template by embedding the review app’s widget or using its API. Apps like Opinew, Judge.me, or Loox allow you to generate review snippets or shortcodes that you can place in your page builder. If the default Shopify reviews app doesn’t integrate well, check if the review app provides an HTML embed code or a liquid snippet to display reviews dynamically.

Hi @HulkyZo ,

There is a Shopify app: https://apps.shopify.com/judgeme, which will easily fit in your custom layout and it is free also.

If you need any assistance with this, you can let me know.

Regards,

There are a few ways in which you can display reviews on a custom Shopify product page that has been created using a page builder—

Inserting Reviews Manually

— If the reviews are contained in metafields, you may utilize a Liquid code such as {% for review in product. metafields. reviews %} within the custom HTML block of your page editor.

— Input static reviews directly into the code temporarily (non-changing).

— Adjust to match the rest of your content using some CSS.

Dynamic reviews with Opinew

— First of all, get the app from Shopify App Store.

— Secondly, copy the code provided at Opinew dashboard for embedding as a review widget.

— Thirdly, insert this code in your page editor’s custom code block.

— Fourthly, ensure that you make some changes on the way it appears so that it matches with

your design before finalizing anything.

— It does this by itself – no need to refresh.

Other Options

Loox: Perfect solution if you want photo reviews and plan on using embedded widgets.

Yotpo: Expensive but offers many features including interactive and dynamic widgets.

Recommendation

Experiment with Opinew’s manual embedding feature because it is very quick and adaptable.

Hi @HulkyZo

You can consider using Opinew or other apps with Embed options. Apps like Opinew, Judge.me, or Loox provide custom HTML snippets that you can insert into your custom template. These apps allow dynamic embedding, meaning the reviews will load based on the current product. Most of them provide shortcodes or JavaScript widgets you can paste inside your page builder.

Hey @HulkyZo !
Sara from the Loox team here :slightly_smiling_face:

I see that many other commenters have suggested this, but Loox actually has integrations with several page builders that allow you to insert Loox directly within their template without having to even touch any code. For any other page builder, you can always copy and paste the widget’s code that you can find on our Help Center into a custom HTML block within the page builder template.

If you have any questions about Loox, we’d be happy to help! You can reach us at the support email address listed below :slightly_smiling_face:
