Product set up opinions/thoughts

Hi all,

Looking for thoughts/opinions/feedback on product set up. Basically products with variants vs individual products.

I run the store for my wife, an author. So the key products are books. Each book has different “variations”…ebooks, audiobooks, print, large-format print, etc. So its not like a “widget” that comes in different colors. They are very different “things” and distributed differently. Currently I have the shop set up with each “title/book” as a product, and then it has variants for the different types. But I’m questioning that from multiple fronts. Specifically, from A) a back end perspective from the ability to run reports and analytics on sales across the shop, and B) a user experience perspective. I’m considering shifting to individual products.

Would love any thoughts, guidance, or perspective from folks that have had stores for a while. How did you set up your store, and would you do it the same way? Opinions/thoughts on products with variants vs. individual products. Are their specific pros/cons to either way?

Thanks in advance.
