I have recently connected my store to Google Shopping, the products are displaying however all incorrectly. All of my variants are displayed as individual products rather than showing as one product with X amount of sizes.
I have looked all over the internet for a solution and I have seen that for my varients to group together as one product, they need to be assigned the same item group id. However, I cannot find any instructions or any way to edit the Item Group ID. At the moment, the Item Group ID is showing as eg. ‘Shopify_AU_2345678987654567’. It is correct though, the grouped items have the same Item Group ID code and yet are displaying as separate products.
Please help me to fix the way my varients are showing on Google Shopping. I do not understand why they are not grouping and why there are so many products available. For example, the Shopify store shows that we have 84 active products, whilst Google Shopping is showing that we have 255 products because the variants have shown as different products
Google does not always group variants together where you can select the variants within one listing.
All that can be done is add the item group id, and all variant attributes such as color, size, age group, gender, material and pattern.
Yes, seeing 255 individual listings (even if variants) in Google Merchant Center is correct. You can only list 1 unique product per listing. This is how it works.
It depends on many factors outside of your control. And the decision how to show ads is based on algorithm.
Thank you for your response. I am after a bit more clarity on the Group ID. The size variants all have identical Group ID which I assume must mean that they should be displayed as one product with variants rather than the variants displaying as three products.
As you can see from the screenshot of my original question, the items have been assigned correctly to the Group ID.
Is it possible to display one item, click on it, and see that there are three size options available?
Or is that not possible and the only way to display the items is by having them displayed by their size breakdown?
If you have added all the required attributes, then you are eligible yes. But only Google will decide if they will do that or not. You, the merchant can not force Google to show grouped listings, even if you comply with all requirements.
If you want to see the details of your own ads, then yes you need to click on it.
Grouped listings will show, if Google wants to show it, the only thing you can do is add the item group id and all the possible variant attributes, such as color, size, age group, gender, material and pattern.
I know you want to force Google to show all in 1 listing, unfortunately Google can decide how and what to show.
Hello Emmanuel,
I have the same issue of variants and I’m about to launch a shopping ad campaign, but I chose only 4 listings, and inside each of those listings there are multiple variants, Would it be a bad idea to choose only one variant of each listing for the campaign instead of all variants?
Thank you for answering.
Yeah! I get what you’re saying. But for the listing variants that I’m planning to run ads for, I will not be showing the size of that exact variant, I will mention in its description that it’s available in multiple sizes (size1, size 2, …)
