Managing in-store-only products with Shopify POS alongside an existing online Shopify store.
Solution: When creating products, configure their “sales channels” so they appear in POS only and are hidden from the Online Store. An image (screenshot) is central, showing where to set channel visibility.
Outcome: The original poster found this configuration immediately after posting.
Concern: Another merchant reports the channel settings have reverted multiple times, causing POS-only items to reappear online. They removed all products from the website and re-added them at least three times; the cause and a prevention method are unclear.
Follow-up: A question about catalog size was raised. One merchant manages over 2,000 SKUs, with roughly 250 designated as in-store-only.
Terms: POS = point of sale; SKUs = stock-keeping units.
Status: The “how-to” is clear, but reliability of channel settings is disputed and unresolved. No fix or official guidance was provided; discussion remains open.
Our company is looking into using Shopify POS for our 4 retail locations. We already have an online store with Shopify, so the transition should be fairly easy.
The question I have today is in regards to inventory. We have a number of products that we’d like to sell in-store only. Are we able to upload products to our database and have them visible in Shopify POS, but not on our online store?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Sorry, found the solution right after posting this. Can’t delete, please disregard.
Answering for future merchants that will find this discussion, so please mark as a solution:
When adding a product, you have the option to choose on which sales channels your product will appear.
It does have the capability to control it, but beware.. I have found the setting changed MULTIPLE times. Somehow items that should not be available for purchase on my website get added back to it. I have had to take everything off thr website to manually add things back at least 3x now. I do not understand how to make it stop happening.
