Pure bundling / Mixed-Leader bundling solution needed!

Hello there

I am building a Shopify store for a specific Music DVD release we are putting out for a band. We want to offer various product bundles on a mix and match basis, for example buy the DVD and add a t-shirt, add a set of postcards, add a poster, add a set of badges etc.

However we want the add-on items to be exclusively available ONLY when you buy the DVD - i.e so that it is not possible to buy the other items separately, e.g you MUST buy the DVD in order to add any other items to create a bundle.

I was reading this blog: https://appstore.mageworx.com/blog/shopify-product-kits-bundle-like-a-pro/#Pure_Bundling - and it’s the Pure bundling and specifically the ‘Mixed Leader’ bundling that they speak of that I think is the solution. However not even the company who wrote the blog offer this solution.

If anyone has any idea if there is a Shopify app which can do this type of bundling I would be grateful to hear!

Many thanks

Lauren

Hey Lauren

One suggestion would be to set the additional items as variant options with the main product.

So all variants would be set to not included and then the extra options can be selected by choosing a variant. You would need to bundle each possible variant up to include the different components as every variant would have the main product in it by default. Our bundling app supports that part.

The main limitation is you can only have 3 variant options of a product and max 100 variants.

Hey Tom

Thanks so much for your reply - I am not too au fait as yet about how to set up variable products in Shopify as our main site runs on Woocommerce so this is a bit new as we are doing it as a standalone project.

But I think I understand the concept.

However what do you mean by ‘You would need to bundle each possible variant up to include the different components as every variant would have the main product in it by default’?

We would always want the main product by default, and just offer different types of variations. I guess though doing it that way you would not set up a separate product for each item, yo would just set up options / variations e.g:

DVD only

DVD+Tshirt

DVD+Postcards

DVD+Badges

DVD + Tshirt + Postcards + Badges

etc etc?

And I guess each variation would need its own identifier / catalogue number?

Could you point me in the direction of your Bundling app?

Many thanks for your help!

Lauren

Hey Lauren

The DVD would be in every variant so you then bundle up each one. It’s a bit complicated to explain so probably visual demo would be best.

Send me an email to tom@channelup.io and I can demo a setup for and see if it would work. Can also show you how we bundle up the different variants.

Each variant SKU would be virtual so it wouldn’t matter what you put there as it doesn’t actually exist.
