I have a simple Shopify store with one product. My main tasks at this time are to (1) update my Dawn theme from 2.3 to 15.3, which I have done; (2) add a 2nd product, probably on its own product page.
My problem now is with my “old” Product page. The Quantity field and the Add to cart button are blacked out (the “Buy with shop” button is normal, white type on blue background; it appears to be in the same section as these other 2; why is it OK?).
My understanding is that I do not delete sections of my old product page. I use the tools available on the theme editor for that page to make any changes.
When I select “# Quantity selector” in the theme editor, the result is “no customizable settings available”.
For a contrasting comparison, my price is readable, not absent, not blacked out. When I select “Price” from the theme editor, it also shows “no customizable settings available.”
Do you have any suggestions about how to fix my problem with the Quantity field and the Add to cart button?
Do I need to create a new Product page from scratch?
Hey there!
I had the exact same issue when I updated my Dawn theme - super frustrating! The quantity and add to cart buttons went completely black after the update, but everything else looked fine.
Here’s what worked for me:
Quick things to check first:
- Make sure your product is actually published and has inventory
- Double-check that it has a price set
The fix that usually works: Go into your theme editor, find the “Product form” section (it might be called “Buy buttons” depending on your version), and just delete it completely. Then add it back from scratch. I know it sounds scary but it literally takes 30 seconds and fixes the styling issue 99% of the time.
If that doesn’t work: Sometimes there’s leftover custom CSS that’s conflicting. Check your theme settings for any custom CSS and try temporarily removing it to see if that’s the culprit.
The reason your “Buy with Shop” button looks normal is because it’s styled differently by Shopify - it’s not part of your theme’s styling, so the update didn’t mess with it.
You definitely don’t need to rebuild your whole product page! This is just a styling glitch from the major version jump you did (2.3 to 15.3 is huge). Dawn 15.3 has some different CSS classes than the old version.
Try the product form delete/re-add trick first - I bet that’ll solve it. Let me know how it goes!
Cheers!
