Hello Shopify Support Team,
I am writing to seek assistance with a specific functionality on my Shopify store that pertains to how product variants are handled in terms of navigation(back button in the web browser).
Issue Description: In my store, each product variant (e.g., sizes etc.) is assigned a unique URL. When a customer selects a different variant on a product page, the page is re-rendered, and the URL changes to reflect the selected variant.
This behavior also affects the browser’s back button functionality, as it navigates between these variant-specific URLs rather than the traditional product page navigation.
While I understand that this setup might be beneficial for SEO purposes, as it allows each product variant to be indexed separately by search engines, it is causing a bit of confusion and inconvenience from a user experience standpoint.
Specific Concerns:
- Navigation Confusion: Customers have reported that the back button does not work as expected - when they click on any of the variant buttons on the product page, and after that try to go “back” in browser, then they have to click multiple times, because each variant is a separate url, leading to a bad user experience(clicking multiple times to get back to previous page).
Request for Assistance: I am seeking guidance or solutions on how to best address these issues while maintaining the SEO benefits of having separate URLs for each variant. Are there any recommended practices, settings, or customizations that can help streamline the user experience without compromising the SEO advantages?
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your advice and any solutions you might suggest.
