Questions About Setting Up Shopify Payments and Using VPN in Mainland China

  1. I have two companies, one in Hong Kong and one in mainland China. I opened PayPal payments with the mainland China company, and my shipping warehouse is in China. I would like to use both Paypal and Shopify Payments on my store and open Shopify Payment through the Hong Kong company. Which location should I choose when registering my store? Should I add another location, or can I open Shopify Payments if my location is set to China but I have a Hong Kong company? Also, if my paypal is under the China company and my Shopify Payment is under the Hong Kong company, would it be a risk although both of them are all under my name?

  2. Does Shopify require consistency between the registration region, IP activity region, shipping region, and company registration location? I am living in mainland China and often experience loading issues when using the Shopify website. Can I use a VPN in this case, or will it be detected as a risk?

Thanks!

I’m experiencing a similar issue. I just registered, but Cloudflare keeps giving me warnings due to my VPN. When I logged off the VPN, I still couldn’t get it to work. I hope Shopify doesn’t suspend my account due to suspicious activity.

When it comes to setting up your payments, you will want to select the country that you’re currently living in. Depending on what country this is, you can check out our list of countries Shopify Payments is available in. As for setting up PayPal, you will want to confirm this provider is supported and available in your country. We have a list of third-party payment providers available here.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
