RBI e-mandate recurring and new order payment issue for customers using Indian banks

Hi Fam,

We have an issue with recurring subscription orders not being processed from Indian customers from August 2023 and it affects the new orders from January 2024.

Customers using Indian cards (debit/credit)
Issue: Customers who click “Pay” on the payment page and are redirected to the Stripe payment page are kicked out after loading with the message “Error payment not processed, order not processed”.

Please let us know how we can resolve this issue.

Hi Adithya,
There’s no easy way to solve it. Some payment gateways like razorpay and payu support subscription for indian cards but the reliability is questionable.

An alternate would be to send payment links to customers on subscription orders for indian customers. Using UPI there is an option to have a recurring payment but that is not supported in shopify natively.
