I have a question similar to this that I can’t seem to find an answer or get a direct answer. My store will make custom products in small batches. I need a minimum order to produce the batch. The “campaign” will be open for 14 days to allow orders to be placed. I don’t want to process the payment unless I have enough interest as I don’t want to refund payments. If I call a hotel on March 1st to make a reservation for the 15th, the hotel takes my credit card info and holds my reservation from the 1st thru the 15th (credit card is verified and a hold put on the funds), then the hotel runs the payment when I check out of the hotel. Is it possible to do that type of payment scenario with Shopify Payments?
Hi, @Otis5516 !
It is possible to capture payments manually with Shopify Payments, meaning customers can place an order without the payment being automatically captured at the time the order is placed. However, the authorization period for Shopify Payments is 7 days, so you would need to manually capture payments for those orders within the 7-day window.
Alternatively, an app like PreProduct next-gen pre-order may work for you, as it offers a ‘pay later’ option. There’s a guide on the Shopify Blog called How to Use Pre-Orders to Validate, Pre-Sell, and Build Hype for a Product that I recommend checking out. This guide mentions the PreProduct app along with some other options.
