Im trying to enable shopify payments to make it easier on my customers and it says i need a companies House Registration Number which I absolutely dont have and im not looking to do any of that. Im not trying to go full time with the business, just sell a few art prints. Is there a way to take card payments without registering the business? Im based in the UK.
Hi @deadgirldrawing ,
This is Theodore from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App.
You don’t necessarily need a registered business to take card payments in the UK for your art prints, but there are trade-offs:
- Use Payment Processors: Square, Stripe, PayPal offer options, but with potentially higher fees and limitations.
- Sell on Marketplaces: Etsy, Amazon Handmade handle payments (with commissions).
Consider the Downsides:
- Higher fees than traditional merchant accounts.
- Possible account holds to verify your activity.
- You’re still responsible for taxes on sales.
Registering a business might be better in the long run for:
- Lower fees.
- Increased credibility with customers.
- Protection of your personal assets.
Best regards,
