We are looking to start using Shopify for our online presence (we have 2 B&M stores and have been in business for 30 years), but we can’t seem to get an answer to this question. We currently offer gift cards and would like to continue to, but obviously we’d like the same gift cards to be used in store and online. We can’t use Shopify POS because our current POS system is highly customized to our business (we are going to be using the Shopify API to synchronize our inventory). Is there a way to take gift cards both online and in the store that doesn’t rely on the Shopify POS being used? Our current gift card vendor allows us to redeem cards using our credit card processor, but they have no support for Shopify. Before we go too far down the Shopify rabbit hole, we wanted to see if there is even a solution for this need of ours, but Shopify support has been no help.
We are in the same boat… well perhaps we’re over board and looking for a life preserver. We are using shopify for one of our brands, but also run B&M stores and we’d like to consolidate Giftcards accoss the sales channels (we are not using shopify POS and have no plans to do so). Shopify seems mum on anything other than shopify POS implementations. I understand there are companies are out there doing it…I just don’t know how they implemented and what APIs were used.
Same boat here! All they need to do is add an option to mark gift cards as redeemed or partially redeemed or at least be able to edit the balance of each gift card in the Shopify admin. Issues like this are what make me not want to switch to ShopifyPOS. Crickets from Shopify chirp chirp
Did any of you come up with a solution? We’re in the same boat. What is interesting is, their Premium plan allows you to redeem gift cards in store fully or partially, but any plan below that, we’re out of luck. This is the most rudimentary of programming. They keep trying to sell me a full POS. Ours, too is customized and we’re not switching either. Every other platform in the industry allows you to take digital gift card in store, and be able to redeem them there as well (partially or fully). I’m being told I need to essentially cancel the gift card in store and give the customer a physical card if they still have a remaining balance. The other option would be to have an iPad by our POS, with Shopify POS app, and redeem them there.
PLEASE SHOPIFY, add this feature to the basic plan. The programming has already been created. Its ridiculous!
