We have a site we are managing that has a good amount of redirects for time products sold out or discontinues. Some of the products are custom on-of-a-kind-pieces, so they won’t be coming back. But my question is in regard to the ones that are coming back. For example, lets say I have a product here:
we run out of Product-One, so we create a redirect for the URL to go to the collection page.
What is going to happen when we bring Product-One back and want to use the above URL that has a Redirect in place? Will adding the page back in void the redirect?
What is the best(common) practice for managing these issues?
What code are you using to redirect collection? Please send me the redirect code and the code of the product.liquid file, I will help you check and add conditions to it
@ccgnh Another good solution, aside from redirecting, would be to convert the visitors landing on out of stock product pages into future customers. Since you have products that will be coming back, you can use an app for back in stock alerts - like Stoq - and add a “Notify me when available” button to it.
When you restock the product, customers automatically get notified to buy it. And just like that, you’ll see sales come in. Most back in stock alerts apps are super easy to set up and require less than a few clicks to set up. Not only that, you can also get -
Insights on products in demand
Advanced features to help you notify customers efficiently
Use newer ecommerce industry trends like preorders to lock in sales even before you restock the product.
From my 2 years of running our preorders and back in stock alerts app - Stoq - I think you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity. We’ve seen time and time again that back in stock alerts are one of the highest converting notifications, and many large merchants invest a ton of time in getting it right!
